Project Summary
RSB Consulting coordinated access planning for the installation and short-circuit testing of KiwiRail’s new dual static frequency converter system, enhancing power supply resilience for future network operations expansion and anticipated demand across the wider Auckland electrified network.
Project Detail
Located in West Auckland, the Western Power Feed Substation project involved the installation of new power infrastructure to support increased demand from the City Rail Link expansion.
RSB Consulting’s scope covered access planning, stakeholder coordination, and safety management during installation and commissioning activities.
Responsibilities included:
- Coordinating rail corridor access and test scheduling for SFC installation and short circuit testing.
- Managing safe working arrangements with KiwiRail and project delivery teams.
- Ensuring minimal disruption to adjacent network services.
The project expanded KiwiRail’s electrification capacity and positioned the Auckland metro network for operational growth following CRL completion as well as providing power-feed resilience to the electrified network.
